An introduction
I was born and raised in Tirana, Albania. Ever since I can remember I was always drawn to painting and drawing. For me it was always a way to see and understand my world. Moving multiple times through my adolescent years to Greece then to the US brought about much change and uncertainty in my life. Through it all painting remained the discipline and medium that followed me through the various cultures that I experienced and always remained for me the one thing that brought about continuity.
I have a BFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art with a Teaching Certificate and a Masters of Education in Secondary Ed from West Chester University. I have been teaching Art for the past 21 years in various capacities, most of which have been in high school where I currently still practice. I love to teach art but most recently I've been diving back into painting and growing in my craft. My choice of medium is Oil paint and I love exploring unique brushwork and application through the use of a palette knife. While I mostly focus on landscape painting and scenery from my own travels I don't think of my work as realistic. Rather, I focus much more on the exploration of light, texture, shape, and color harmonies inviting the viewer to engage and interact with the surface of the painting in a fresh new way. The process of painting and building to an impasto through layering is very much what interests me as does the interplay of what lies beneath the surface and how it impacts and interacts with the top coat.
